The Bioactive Natural Products Research Group investigates constituents from natural sources including plants, microorganisms, and animals for potential bioactivity. The search for bioactive natural products is targeted at extracts, fractions, and compounds with antioxidant, cardiovascular, antimicrobial, antiviral, haemagglutination, and spasmolytic/spasmogenic and cytotoxic activities. Moreover, the development of rapid and convenient methods to separate the bioactive natural products is also the main focus area of this research group. The principal skills of the group include extraction, isolation, structural characterization, in vitro and in vivo assays as a tool for bio-oriented fractionation, toxicological evaluation, chromatographic separations including gravity eluted column chromatography, thin layer chromatography, counter current chromatography, flash chromatography, and high performance liquid chromatography.
Focus Areas
Natural Products, Medicinal Plants, Extraction, Isolation, Structure elucidation, Bioassays, Chromatography, 3D cell cultured scaffold, and biocomposite preparation.
